Vigilance
Working Under Live Voltage
Published by Textuel
With the support of EDF
Author: Arthur Mettetal
«In the aftermath of the Second World War, France faced a major challenge: electrifying the entire country and bringing every household into the modern age. Vast electrical, thermal, hydroelectric, and, soon, nuclear infrastructures were built, permanently reshaping the landscape and transforming the working conditions of Électricité de France employees. The dangers to which these workers were exposed and the high accident rates prompted EDF to establish (…) a “prevention and safety department” and, in 1953, to launch the magazine Vigilance, in which photography played a central role.» Textuel
